Getting to know Reydiant Products Part 3: The differences between carrier oils and essential oils

Good Day My Reydiant Beauties!

We hope you enjoying our Series “Getting to know Reydiant Products.” Today we will be bringing the information learnt from Part 1 and Part 2 together by comparing the differences between carrier oils and essential oils.

Origins
Carrier oils are vegetable oils that have been derived from the fatty parts of a plant such as the seed or nuts.
Essential oils come from the non-fatty areas such as bark, roots, stems, leaves and the more aromatic parts of the plant.

Potency and Quantity
Carrier oils are not very potent or concentrated they will generally not damage or irritate your skin if applied directly. Carrier oils are used for a variety of skin functions and may be used in large volumes.
Essential oils however are very potent and they should never be applied directly to the skin. With that being said, it is best for essential oils to be diluted in carrier oils and only a few drops should be used at a time.

Texture and Aroma
Carrier oils are thick in texture and more ‘oily’, they generally have either no aroma or a mild aroma.
Essential oils are generally thin in texture and runny with a strong aroma.

Examples of carrier oils:
Coconut Oil
Sweet Almond Oil
Olive Oil
Jojoba Oil
Avocado Oil
Castor Oil
Examples of essential oils:
Lavender Oil
Rose Oil
Chamomile Oil
Lemon Oil
Fennel Oil

We hope this post has helped you to understand the differences between carrier oils and essential oils. By now you should be able to notice why we choose to predominantly use carrier oils and essential oils in our products. It’s great for your skin, hair and body therefore making it perfect to use in our cosmetic and skincare ranges!
